Towing Issues: towing a wrangler, jeep wrangler, dodge dakota

Question
I have a 04 dodge dakota v8 4.7. Would like to plan on towing my 04 jeep wrangler w/tow bar all wheels down. Would the dakota tow it without any problems?

Answer
Anthony,

Tow bars are designed to tow vehicles of very different weights.  The Dakota has a base curb weight of 3,500 lbs.  The Wrangler has a base curb weight of 3,200 lbs.

The Wrangler is going to try to push the back end of the Dakota all over the road.  Tow bars don't tow like trailers.  The force from the tow bar is pulling the front of the towed vehicle hard enough to force the front wheels to turn a corner.  Then it has to resist the force of the towed to get the front wheels to straighten out after you exit a corner.

That being said, if you decide to go ahead, be sure to check the towing laws for your area as most will require a braking system on the Wrangler, else prohibit the setup completely.
