Toyota Repair: Tachometer

Question
I have a 1992 Toyota camry 4 cylinder LE

The Tach sometimes works and other times it reads 200 rpm when car is going 60mph.

What is the problem and how do I fix it.

Thank you for your reply

Answer
Most likely it's the tach itself that's the problem, remove the instrument cluster and inspect the circuit board solder joints for corrosion, check the small nuts that attach the board, these are ground points which can cause intermittent operation, if everything looks good try to get another cluster from a junkyard and give it a try or check with the dealer if they still have the tach available separately.
