Toyota Repair: toyota 4runner 3.0, airflow meter, toyota 4runner

Question
I have a 1990 4runner with 3.0 that when given full throttle, bogs down with an audible throaty sound. the cat conv has been removed, cold start inj unplugged and vafm r and r'd with no change and the tps sensor ohms within specs.  What other troubleshooting should I do?

Answer
It sounds like a restriction on the intake system, check the air filter and make sure there is nothing stuck in the airflow meter, check the airflow meter door to make sure it opens all the way. The timing could also be off, check it with a timing light and set too eight degrees BTDC, you might also check the timing belt timing, the timing belt may be worn and jumped on the gears.
