Toyota Repair: camry problem, valve stem seals, jim paris

My wife's 2002 camry 4cyl is now smoking just when she starts it after sitting all night.  it does not leak oil.  she has faithfully had the oil changed by exhaust pro since we bought it new in o2.  any ideas on what may be the problem?  thank you Jim Paris

This is not an unusual problem with these engines, the problem is that the valve stem seals are leaking, the seals should be replaced, unfortunately this is a job that is quite involved but it can be done without removing the cylinder head, special tools are required and a technician that knows how to perform this correctly, it will cost around $950-1,000 at the toyota dealer.
