Toyota Repair: illumination lights on the dash board, illumination lights, gauge readings

Question
Hi Ted!

I have a Toyota 1997 RAV SUV. In the evening,my illumination lights on my dash (speedometer and fuel gauge readings) and center console (drive shift gears) are not lighting up. The seatbelt indicator lights works.

I checked and replaced the fuses underneath the steering wheel. The vehicle drives okay.

Is there a light bulb that needs to be changed for my illumination lights to work on the dash/console? I have a owner's manual but no specification on illumination lights.

As well, I just changed the driver side front headlight bulb. Any connection relating with the dash illumination lights?

I read about your suggestion regarding a dash light control rheostat. Do, I bring my vehcile to the dealership or can a mechanic shop who services Toyota be okay?

Thanks for any suggestions.

Sincerely, Janet

Answer
I doubt if it is a bulb problem because all those lights don't work and the chances of all of them being burned out are slim. there is a loss of power to the illumination lights, make sure the tailights are working, if not check the fuse marked "tail" and make sure it is good, either the dealer or a decent repair shop should be able to figure this out.
