Toyota Repair: Toyota Camry Timing Belt, nissan sentra, camry v6

Question
Ted,
I am planning to buy a 1996 Camry V6 XLE with 101k miles on it from a small dealer.  The dealer says that the timing belt was replaced at 60k miles.  I am not very sure about that.

After I buy the car, how do I know when to replace the timing belt or if it has been replaced at 60k miles?

A few yrs ago, I had a nissan sentra in which the timing belt broke and my car was useless.  I do not want that to happen again.

Answer
You could have the toyota dealer check the belt by removing the top half of the timing cover for inspection.
Unlike Nissans, if the timing belt should break there is no engine damage, the valves can't contact the pistons, the engine will just stop running.
