Toyota Repair: Oil leak, toyota camery, good luck jack

Question
Hello Jack,

I have an 85 Toyota Camery that is ozing small amounts of oil from the engine where the head gasket is located.  There is no oil in the cooling system, which works fine, and there is no smoke from the exhause and no decrease in the performance so I think it is an external leak only.

My question is:  is there a treatment to seal the engine from the outside without having to replace the head gasket?

Answer
There are not miracles in a can.
If you have a leak then the material that is leaking needs to be replaced.
That engine had a history of showing leakage but normally it was so slight that no repair is needed. If you are getting spots of oil on the ground then you may want to clean the engine or engine area to find the cause, it may not be the head gasket but the valve cover or dist housing seal to the the engine.
Good luck
Jack
