Triumph Repair: Headlights/TR-7, headlight motors, limit switches

Question
I have a 1976 TR-7. When I bought it the Headlight motors would not work together. I found that the pass side had a bad diode. I replaced the motor. I reconnect the motor and found that the battery would run down quickly when I turned on the lights.  I must have a short but I cant run it down. The pass side motor will run constantly but the Driver side has no power. It has new relays and they still show good. The Hi& Lo beams work properly. Can you point me in the right direction? Thanks, Danny

Answer
Hi Danny,

The TR-7 head light motors depend on the diodes, cancel/limit switches and run/stop relays to operate correctly.

The only way that I was able to correct problems in the system was to have the diagram in front of me while I operated and tested each circuit to see which circuit had failed.

If you don't have a diagram, let me know and I will post one on my web site for you to copy it.

I started at the motors and tested each to see that they operate. Then test each diode and the limit switch in each and then the relays and confirm that the master light switch powers the blue wire to each and the blue w/brown tracer when applied.

Let me know if you need the diagram.
