Tips on Buying Cars: Dishonest car seller(USA) lied to me that his car has never been in accident. what are my options?, fender bender, eclipse gt

Question
Hi,
thanks for replying.
I bought this from a private party (a kid from UCLA). I asked him specifically about accidents or as a matter of fact i asked him "Have u ever replaced anything except oil in this car" (its a 2003 eclipse GT; 28000 Miles on it). He clearly said "NO".
Personally i do not want to be involved in any law suit but i still want to know how can i negotiate with him so that he buys me an extended warranty or something like that so that i do not have to pay if car breaks up due to this problem.
Just want to know my options so that i know what i'm talking about when i negotiate with him.

Thanks
Ashish

Question -
I'm sort of new to US laws n everything. Bought a car few days back and (2003 model, still under warranty, carfax was clean, car dealer did his 122 point inspection, $105 and said car was like new). I found out that car has been in a crash and repairs totaling to >$3000 (in fixing right side impact) have been made. Was wondering what my options are? Although car runs and works fine. However i feel cheated(he lied and never told me about it) and want to do something about it.
Any and all help will be appricated.
thanks

Additional Details

Bought in CA. Crash was from right side hit. I was looking at service recipts few days back and found out the sale recipt for this job work. Also found a document from third parties insurance agency saying that they'll serve 50% claim and so. I have a witness who can say that i have asked about any accidents or repairs from this owner and that he had denied and said "car is clean and new, never got any work done except oil change".

Hi Ashish
First a $3000. claim today is a mere fender bender or key scratch, nothing to worry about...

But i understand your concern and you can contact the Minestry of Transportation in the state...

However before i can make further comments there are some issues thats not clear to me...did you buy from a dealer or private ??? and how did you discover the accident report ???

Carfax was clean...please check my thoughts about carfax on my website
http://usedcartips.bravehost.com/index.html
and navigate to HAS THIS CAR BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT

The point here is if you bought from a dealer then you got a clean report as there has been no activity reported...but if you bought private from a one owner then all facts were not disclosed and you have a very valid point...but again i say $3000.accident in the year 2006 is a mere scratch

Answer
Hi Again
When you buy a vehicle private you are buying AS IS and it will end up...he said...you said...had you bought from a dealer you would have had some options

You point is very valid and i understand your thoughts...i would feel the seller out, tell him your prepared to take this matter further unless you come to a settlement

SUMMARY
You will have learned buying a car private is a risky business and i somehow know you will not make the same mistake twice
