Triumph Repair: Ignition switch, starter solenoid, basic 3

Question
Can you please tell me how to wire a basic 3-pole (ST-IG-B)ignition switch. What does ST-IG-B stand for.

Can this 3-pole ignition switch be used as a cheaper alternative for an ignition switch which  has originally more than three poles?

Answer
Yahaya,

Is this going into a Triumph?  If so, which model?

I'm guessing you're looking at a "Starter-Ignition-Accessory" switch.

If that's the case, the set of contacts for the starter send the signal to the starter solenoid.  The "IG" is power for the ignition circuit.  The "B" would be power for things like the radio that you might want powered with the ignition off.

As to it's suitability for other applications, again I'll need more information before I can provide any guidance.

Cheers,

Jim
