UK Car Repair: ems maybe????, renault dealership, coolant temp

Question
Hi, i have a renault scenic 1.9dti.  Recently the cam belt snapped and resulted in me having to have my cylinder head refurbished by a head specialist.  A friend of mine did the rest of the work.  The problem is, upon starting he had to disconnect the coolant temp sensor to get the glow plugs to work, the engine then idles fine.  When driving all the time your foot is on the throttle the car runs fine, when you slow down the car cuts out but if you turn the ignition off then back on the car starts running again till you next slow down. The battery was disconnected for about a fortnight and it has an electronic throtttle.  I was wondering could this be engine management related? The car is on an s plate.  Any help would be greatly appreciated, many thanks mark smith.

Answer
Take it to the Renault dealership and have the computer recalibrated. Have them also check the initial cam timing and retorque the head to ensure it has sealed properly. I always feel a little wary about diesels that have a timing belt; cars in the USA have chains due to the stress levels seen in the diesel combustion cycle. I would assume that something is less than kosher in the throttle actuation department and maybe even the primary injection pump. These are all sensor controlled so, let a trusted garage take car of this. My 2006 Honda Civic is "drive by wire" and any slight adjustment made will screw it all up! Not that it ever needs adjustment ;)Try that and keep me informed on your progress.
