Volvo Repair: 1994 Volvo 850 parking brake frozen, northern climates, parking brakes

Question
I live in a snowy winter area that uses salt.  I recently washed my 1994 Volvo 850 to get rid of salty residues and then parked the car in the garage for about a week.  When I tried to drive it tonight, releasing the parking brake didn't feel quite right and then going forward the right rear wheel was completely locked up.  I suspect the parking brake is frozen up (rusted in closed position?).  Is there any way to confirm this and free up the parking brake without having it towed?

Answer
John, well, thats one of the reasons why I dont use parking brakes, especially in the northern climates.  No need for it if you  have an automatic.  Anyway, the only way to do it is to take the wheel off and try to access the adjuster through the rotor.  If that doesnt work then the caliper and rotor would need to come off to access the situation.  I would try going back and forth, forward reverse, and it might break loose.  If not, a shop will have to get involved.  Roger
