Hi

UK 1998 (R) Volvo V40 1731cc
Non a/c

My heater blower just stopped working. I have checked the fuses and relays and all are ok. The motor works as I put 12v directly across it. I took the switch out to test and that seems to work, makes contcts as it should. There is a good earth and I get 12v everywhere I believe I should. I have replaced the heater resistor as
the old one had perished.
When I took the blower switch out to check it there were two cables on the connector that are not listed in my Haynes manual, an orange/blue and an orange/grey. I do not know what they are for, could these be the problem?

Another thing that happened is that the hazard warning lights now do not operate, but all of the individual indicators are fine.
Help me as I am running out of ideas?

Many Thanks

Andy

If the resistor pack is blown than the blower will work in high speed only but no slower speeds, unless the connector to the resistor pack is messed up.  I'll have to check a wiring diagram to tell you what those wires are.  If the turn signals work but the hazards do not than you know the bulb circuits are functional it has to be a hazard specific power source (fuse, flasher, etc.) or it has to be the switch.  Hope that helps.

Thanks for your reply. The connectors all seem to be ok.

Regarding the hazard problem - when you turn the key to position 1 then seatbelt warning makes the noise but when you operate the hazard switch it stops as if the hazard warning noise wishes to start but won't.

All the best

Answer
The only thing i found that i think could cause that is if the hazard switch was bad.  The flasher unit is integral to the switch so its the most likely culprit.  It could be the wiring up to the switch, but it has to be on that circuit.  I would get it properly diagnosed before you bought any parts though just to make sure you weren't wasting money.  This is a part that is most likely only available at the dealer so you may want to go ahead and let them be the ones to look at it.  Hope this helps.
