BMW: injectors, 1995 bmw 540i, bmw 540i

Question
Hi Dan i have a 1995 bmw 540i and i have 1256 error code witch is injector #6 problem. What i would like to know is if it is only the injector or if it could be something else.

Answer
I would need the detailed information of the code to give an accurate guess. With the engine running use a long screw driver as a stethescope and listen for the #6 injector to see if it is clicking. If it is the injector is probably ok. Remove the driver side plastic ignition coil cover and look down into the spark plug bores and see if they are full of oil. If they are the valve cover gaskets are leaking and causing misfire faults. Remove the #6 spark plug and see if the porcelain has any cracks, higher mileage plugs usually do. And if the injectors are good and the plugs are firing correctly then it is time to do some base engine diagnosis. Check the compression and cylinder leak down. I am not sure if you are aware but the engine blocks in those cars basically sucked, so bad that BMW waranteed them for 10 years and 100,000 miles. The cylinder walls broke down and just didn't run. In the cold if they would even start at all the idled terribly and threw misfire faults. A dealer could look at the block casting numbers and tell you if it has had the updated engine installed or not.
