Answer
Luke,
The Euro version was sold in Europe only.  It had 321hp, while our US model had 240hp.  I'm not sure if you live in the USA, but if so... you are probably stuck with a US model.  The reason for the decreased HP is our emission regulations.  1996 was the first year for OBDII diagnostics so every car had to meet these higher emission standards. (hence why the Nissan 300ZX and Mazda RX-7 left the USA that year)
These emission standards usually include highly restrictive exhaust and other measures that put a strangle-hold on the engine's breathing ability.

I've driven several of these cars, and they are quite fun and balanced even at 240hp.  I will admit that they would be more fun with 321hp.  Either way, make sure that you are ready for a car like this.  I remember when I was 18, and I probably shouldn't have had some of the cars I owned.

These cars were offered in 2 or 4 door configurations, and with manual or automatic transmissions.

The most desired cars are the 2-door coupés with 5-speed manual transmissions.  You should look to pay around $18-$25k for these cars.

The least desired is the 4-door automatic cars, these can be had for just over $10k, and arent worth the money.

I would STRONGLY urge buying a Manual Coupé.  The Coupé holds it's value much better than the 4-door, and you aren't going to have tranny problems like you would with an automatic.

If you cant drive a manual transmission, you need to learn.... there's nothing better than shifting yourself, and it gets better gas mileage.

Make sure you look at Insurance cost before you buy the car.  Like you, I worked full-time when I was 18, and there were several cars that I could have owned, but found that Insurance was as much as the car payment.... and that wouldn't work.

 Have fun and be safe
