Buick/Olds: 2000 Buick Century, buick century, prndl

I have a 2000 Buick Century and the light for the odometer has gone out. We can't tell what the mileage is or see the PRNDL in the LED display. I have checked the fuses and everything else still works. There is no other lights out or problems. So How can I change the light bulb so we can read the mileage? I have looked under the dash from inside the car and there is a metal sheilding around the steering column. Do I need to take the dash off?

note...not only can you not see theodeometer, but your telltale thingy that tells you when to change your oil is inoperative, as well as your sensor that monitors your tire pressure.
I personally have the same item on my 2001 Century, and am pursueing reparing the problem. It is more than a bulb being burned our... This is a led based "light", and the problem is coming from the computer.
