Buick/Olds: Removing alternator from 1994 Olds Cutlass ciera, olds cutlass ciera, oldsmobile cutlass

Question
I need to remove the alternator from the 6 cyl. in my 1994 Oldsmobile cutlass cierra. How do I release the tension in the serpentine belt?

Thanks for your time.

Answer
All cars have what we call a tension pulley.  There are two types.  One type is the kind where you can use a 5/8" or a 15mm or something SOCKET to pull towards you and it releases the tension.  The other kind, which I had on my 1991 Caprice, has a metal assembly that has a 5/8" drive fitting on it.  With that type, you can use a 5/8" SOCKET or you can get a 5/8" tensioner from the auto store.  They will know what to give you.
