Cadillac: starts rough and shuts off, cadillac deville, rough sound

I have a 1992 Cadillac deville v8 4.9L.  147,000 miles on it.  I have a code of
12 and 53.  I changed out the cap and rotor, and the coil.  Still no luck.  It
will start up really rough sound like its going to die, I give it gas and as soon
as I let my foot off, it dies.  I was going to change out the ignition module
but, there is no guarantee that that will cure it.  Thats as fair as my
knowledge takes me.  What ever I have in the repair manual and uneducated
guesses.  So what do you think?  Any help would be really appreciated.

Both codes seem to lead to the pickup coil within the distributor as your problem.

QUESTION: Did you try CLEARING your codes from the computer and see which code or codes re-appear ?.
