Dodge: 2001 5.9 Dodge Ram Waterpump Replacement, crankshaft seal, pullys

Question
Hello Ram Man,
You have helped me out before so here goes again.  I have developed a small oil leak in the front of my 360, which I belive is the timing gear cover crankshaft seal.  Question one, can I replace that seal without dismantling the whole front of my engine or do I need to remove the timing gear cover?  Question two.  If I need to remove the timing gear cover I want to also change out the water pump, bypass hose, and thermostat while I am in there.  I know there are two types of water pump pullys on these engines, A bolt on type and a press on type.  I think mine is a press on type.  What is the best way to get it off and back on again?  What type of puller and what area of the pully do I attach the jaws of the puller without destroying the pulley?  Any advice will be most appreciated, thank you for your time and have a great day..

Answer
Barry,
You will have to remove the cover to replace the gasket.I know it's a lot of work but it will have to come apart to do it.You might also want to consider replacing the timing chain also depending on the miles. If you buy a water pump from an Auto Zone or Oreillys or someplace they will usually press the pulley back on for you. They also sell the pullers for this also, but it is a lot easier to let them press it on for you. These pulleys will bend if the puller is not lined up straight.
