Ford: engine running fast, throttle position sensor, crank sensor

Question
i had my 2002 ford ranger put on a computer and it states the following problem.  P0171  bank 1    P0171  bank 2  P0300 random misfire.  it will idle very fast and most times it will stop.

also does this model have platinum plugs.  help desperately needed  using lots of gas

thanks

Answer
it sounds like you may have a bad crank sensor, which sends the signal to the coil packs, either way it sounds like a irregular firing signal. it could be any one of the following causing the problem; bad crank sensor, bad coil packs (doubtful) a few bad plug wires, or a gummed up TPS (throttle position sensor)
