Ford: selling a car, kelly blue book, 1997 ford taurus

Question
I am planning on selling a 1997 Ford Taurus Sedan with 115,000 miles on it. The cars engine and transmision it good and their are no electrical or mechanical problems with the car.  The only thing is their are a few dings on on the passenger side of the car.  I checked the car on autotrader.com and the same car with the same amount of miles on it ranged from $4,000-$4,500. While the blue book price was $3,400.   How much you think I should sell the car for?

Answer
Kays,
I checked the private party selling price on Kelly Blue Book dot com and fair condition is $1,750, good condition is $2,150.00. Many of the selling prices you might find on AutoTrader from dealers that sell older cars with high mileage are lots that do there own financing. They keep their prices higher because most of them don't add intrest to their loans so they make their profit from marking their cars up higher than they normally would sell for. The wholesale value for a car like your's is probably between $1,000 and $1500.
I hope you have good luck selling your car. Make sure you price your car a little higher than you would actually take , so you have some room to negotiate. Most people will offer you less than the asking price no matter what price you start with. If you get $2,500-$2800 for the car you would be doing pretty good.
