GM-GMC: 700r4, chev silverado, torque converter

Question
hey dave, i have a 1988 chev silverado with a 305 tbi 700r4 trans, i am putting a crate 350 in with a carb. i read somewhere that the trans has electronic torque converter lock up, i didnt think there were any electronics on this transmission, if there is, could i just leave the ecm hooked up in the truck and unhook the check engine lamp(because of no other wiring or sensors for engine) just to keep the lock up? or do i have to buy a kit to keep the lock up and get rid of my ecm, do you know if instrument gauges or a/c go through ecm as well? thanks, mike.

Answer
I myself would replace the trans ,

You have a 88 trnas , who knows what type of conditoin it is in ?

If you put a 350 , Go with a 400 trans ... You will see a difference in your torque as well. You can purchase one threw a speed shop

Yes the newer trans have electonics . I also wish thatthey would have stayed away from all that ! O 'well progress .

Let me know !
