GM-GMC: 99 6.5 diesel shuts off, gm diesels, crankshaft position sensor

hello, i have 99 chevy diesel 3500 6.5 turbo shuts off several times while driving. found small hole in fuel sending unit tank. change sending unit, cleaned tanks, replaced lift pump, replaced
filter,injection pump,pmd,pdc,and computer pcm,
now truck will start cold and run for about 30min. -60 min. then shuts down while driveing and is very hard to start if it starts at all.

any ideas  thank you  bill

My diesels are non-computer, so my advice is based on what I have read about the 1994 and newer GM diesels.

The PMD is usually the source of such trouble as you are describing.  As I understand it, the PMD failure does not set a diagnostic code in the computer.  A remote mount and extension cable usually cures the problem.

You should have the codes read to see if you get any help in determining your problem.  Also, check and recheck all electrical connections and grounds.  Finally, the crankshaft position sensor will fail and cause this type of problem (I have seen it do so on gas engines).

It sounds like you have had more than your share of problems and expense.  I hope that you are able to resolve the problem.
