Hyundai: power steering problems, rotary vane pump, power steering problems

Question
Hello.
A couple weeks ago I drove through a huge puddle and my power steering immediately went wonkey. I don't have a splash guard so when I waited a few minutes and the steering was back to normal I figured it was just the splash and I'd just be careful in the rain. A few days later, on a completely dry day, I went to make a sharp turn into a parking space and couldn't. Ever since then every time I try to make a sharp turn my power steering doesn't seem to work. It works fine until the sharp turns and rainy days. I checked the power steering fluid and there's plenty and had my father (who knows the bare minimum about cars) check the belt and he said it looks fine as well. I'm just afraid it's going to keep getting worse but I can't afford taking it to a garage right now. I'd be very grateful to any insight you might have.

Answer
Hi Tarra, sorry it took so long to get back with you. Most power steering systems work by using a belt-driven pump to provide hydraulic pressure to the system. This hydraulic pressure is generated by a rotary vane pump which is driven by the vehicle's engine. The rotarty vane pump might be flooded or could of got mixed in with your fluid in the pump. You will have to get that ckecked from a dealer or professional.
