Mazda: 1985 rx7 gslse, oxygen sensor, ill effect

Question
My car has run great until just recently when I put some race gas in, maybe 98 octane. I drove maybe 10 miles since then trying to self diagnos. Immediately after I noticed loss of power as if the gas was not combusting and lots of back firing. I drained the fuel after maybe 5 miles of driving, ran regular unleaded through, cleaned the spark plugs, ran fuel injectore cleaner in, still does the saame stuff. Do i need toe drive it more and burn off unspent race gas, could the oxygen sensor be damaged? Any help will help.

Answer
Race gas of 98 octane should bare no ill effect on the engine.  Likely just a coincidence that you have a failure at this time.  Check your ignition system for a breakdown, plugs, wires.  Do not assume a cleaned plug not to be fouled.  If you have a new set install them starting with the lead then the trail plugs.  NGK iridium are the best you can get.

Ignition breakdowns have a tendency to correct (to some degree) with RPM's so if it misfires or has power problems at low RPM that improves with speed then your on the right track.
