Mazda: Transmission fluid 92 Mazda protege, sump drain plug, mazda protege

Question
Hello

I can't find where you put tansmission fluid in my '92 Mazda Protege. It's a standard. Any help would be greatly apreciated, especially a good description. (I know it's somewhere between the battery and engine but theres no dip stick thing). Thanks a bunch

Answer
Not my are of expertise, however a manual transmission Mazda does not have a dipstick.  You'll have a sump drain plug and a fill plug a short distance upwards on the side of the transmission.  With the drain plug in place fluid (usually gear oil 75w-90) is added until it begins to overflow the fill plug, that is your correct fluid level, close the fill plug and your done.  If you haven't changed this oil then it is advisable to do so by removing both plugs and releasing the oil into a catch basin then replacing the drain plugs an following the steps above.
