Mazda: judder when in reverse gear, clutch facings, clutch discs

Question
Hi I'm very new to mx5, just bought a 1991 mx5 eudos special edition in british racing green with electrics & leather trim A1 condition drives great engine sounds good and its very clean, only problem is judder when reversing any ideas please, would like to know if its a common fault thats easy to fix thanks.

Answer
The judder is common, reverse is a non forgiving gear.  It amplifies clutch engagement which is what you are feeling.  If you can drive in reverse for more than just a short trip to the curb you may feel it corrects for itself to some degree as you go.  Depending on mileage you may have some hot spots on your clutch facings that may be the culprit.  Also replacement clutch discs now come with more centrifugal dampener springs which will smooth engagement even more.  I recommend the ACT line.
