Mercedes: igniton swap, electrical failure, pnta

Question
will my 87 mercedes 190e 4 cylinder engine automatic igntion switch swap to my 89 190e 6 cylinder 5 speed?

Answer
Frank,
It depends on whether you are swapping for just the electrical parts. Or not. In any event, If the key lock is dash mounted not column mounted it is a PNTA to change either lock.
I had electrical failure of the lock on my 86 420sel and I had to remove the instrument cluster an drop the steering column to get the mechanical components out of change the electricals on the back of the switch. This is a job I would not like to repeat.
If it is the electrical, I would recommend searching ebay for a replacement for 89 model.
