Mitsubishi: Cars, nissan maxima, mercedes audi

Question
QUESTION: 1.  Can you tell me a bit about car.  It look likes a lifetime.  Why type of car should I buy for myself and the most useful.

2. I have Nissan Maxima that costs $7,000, but now it is broke and fixed it but I want to trade it for a new car.  In addition, how much would one buy if I were to sell it.

3. Can you tell me what makes a car great: engine, type, style, colors, etc.

ANSWER: 1.)  As to what kind of car you should get, it depends on what kind of cars you like.  The Nissan Maxima that you have is a very nice and reliable car.  A lot depends on what kind of area you live in.  For instance if you live in New England, and have to go through winters with 5 months of possible snow, you may want to consider an AWD (All wheel Drive or 4WD (4Wheel Drive) which will give you better traction in snow and has a better suspension for the bumpy roads.  If you are in the Mid-west, where it is flat, you may be fine with a rear wheel drive or front wheel drive.  If you live in the mountains, I would suggest a vehicle with a little more power: for instance the Nissan Maxima with the 3.0 6cyl as opposed to the 4 cyl.  In the long run you will get better gas mileage and a better ride because your vehicle will not be straining as much.

2.)  As you what car you should get?  I'd say if you are single and don't have a family then your options are wide open.  If you have passengers in and out often (like children) don't get a coupe. (2-door) Imports like Honda, Nissan, Toyota, and Mitsubishi are going to be the most reliable as time and statistics have shown.  Kia and hyundai are up and coming but have yet to match the quality and longevity of the ones I mentioned before.  The more expensive imports BMW/Mercedes/Audi/Infinity/Lexus... are really nice cars, if you can afford them.  The rule of thumb usually goes: the more expensive the car... the more expensive the fix.  But you will more often than not be delightfully surprised that you don't have nearly the amount of fixing to do on those "quality cars" that you do on lesser grade cars.

I'm not totally knocking domestic cars, its just that they take shortcuts to make parts cheap, they way overpay on labor (upwards of $75/hr) for their employees, and end up with a lesser quality, more expensive, horrible trade in value, and overall less value for your money.

3.)  What makes a car great?  What makes a car great is a careful balance of its: Usefulness, Fuel economy, power, resale value, and usage costs (gas prices/ insurance prices/ registration/tax charges)  What makes a car great to each one of us varies from person to person.  To parents, a minivan with double doors/ cup holders/ storage cubbies/ and multiple climate zone might be just perfect.  But a young man, may feel embarrassed to tool around in his parents minivan.  He may prefer a sporty little coupe with fancy wheels, exaust, and a motor with exceptional power.  An averaged man or woman has learned that that young mans car gets you pulled over, cost more to insure, and leads to sometimes unwanted attention.  He would probably go for a Honda accord, Toyota camrey/Avalon, nissan maxima, or buick regal, park ave, Cadillac STS/sls, Ford Taurus...  a midsized sedan with tried and tested reliability, reasonably good gas mileage, and be quite happy.

If you are just looking for a newer car... and you are used to driving a Maxima...   I would suggest you try one of the late model Honda Accord's.  They are a tremendous value and have an excellent drive-ability  similar to the Maxima.  Before I could recommend further I would need to know if you have a family... what kind of area you live in... if you commute... those type of things.   And as to the value of the current car:  I need to know the approximate year/ Mileage/ and Condition.    I hope I have been some help.

Sincerely,
Philip Giasson

QUESTION: Can I trade my Nissan Maxima for a Honda Accords or a Motorcycle.  Where can I do that trade.  I lived in the San Diego area.

Answer
Absolutely!  There are lots of people around looking to do trades like that.  One possible web site is called craigslist.com.  They have localized Buy, Sell, Trade classifieds.  There you can make an ad telling people what kind of bike or car you are looking to trade for and what you have, take a picture, post... and see what happens.  Another option may be to auction the car on Ebay.com.  It only takes about 30 minutes or so to make an ad and you can have the car sold/auctioned within a week sometimes.

Also, it would be a good idea to find out the value of your car first, head over to www.NADAGUIDES.com.  There you will be able to punch in a few details about your car... and find out what the retail/trade/ and as-is prices are.  Plus, you will know if you're getting a good offer or not, when it comes to trades.  Always be careful with trades!!!  Try to have a mechanic friend with you to take a look over what you are interested in Car/Bike... whatever and make sure that something isn't seriously wrong!  I wish you the best of luck.
