Mitsubishi: oil light flickers engine lights come on car stalls, oil pressure gauge, light flicker

Question
i have a 1993 eclipse gs 1.8 i just replaced the alternator twice and distributor cap and plugs w/ wires . the car ran fine for a day and then it started to stall when i drive or brake the check engine light comes on and the oil light comes on i give it gas and the lights go away then the oil light starts to flicker. i took it to a shop and they told me it was an icu ...then i took it to an auto part store and they checked my oil it was a half quart low , then they found out that there was no oil pumping to the top of the engine and told me it was an oil pump problem is this true?

Answer
Hi Michael,

Well, sure... it could be true. That car should have an oil pressure gauge on the dash. If it is reading low, that will make the oil light flicker. If it's reading low it could mean that you need an oil pump, valve guides, rings, lower end bearings, complete engine overhaul or many other problems that will need to be fixed. If it is only a pint low then it could be a bad oil pump. Take it to someone you trust to give you a good diagnosis on what the problem is. It is not likely the ICU or any other electrical component. Hope this helps, thanks... BTW A Cottman transmission shop will preform a free diagnostic service that will tell you exactly what you need to do...
