Pontiac: pontiac grand am 1996, engine coolant, dashboard lights

Question
what is the square red light with an arrow pointing down and fluid on the bottom....it is on the right hand side of the dashboard lights

Answer
this indicator means: Low engine coolant in the radiator and or in the over-flow (surge) plastic container.

If BOTH the radiator and the over-flow (surge) plastic container are at their maximum levels, You may have a faulty switch.

This switch is a single wire that is attached to either the overflow (surge) tank or near the top of the radiator on either the right or left side.

If the radiator and the over-flow (surge) plastic container are BOTH full of coolant at their proper levels and the light on the dash continues to illuminate, REPLACE this LOW COOLANT SWITCH.
