Recently the timing chain on my 2.2 DOHC ecotec broke. The dealership want appx. $1000.00 to repair, is this something i can take on my self with good genral engine knowelege. Is there some good service manuals for guide. Also is there a any cause of concern for this happen

Answer
This is the first one of the ecotec engines that I've heard of that had any mechanical problems. I have not had one apart yet nor has anyone in my dealer, so I'm not sure how involved it really is. Its just a DOHC engine, so it cant be that bad. But I cant say for sure if it is something that you could handle because I don't know your abbilities.
Before you tear into it, you should try to get ahold of GM consumer affairs and see if maybe they will take care of it for you or at least cut the cost, because this is such a rare problem and you only have 57k on the car. I think the phone number is in your owners manual.
