Pontiac: Speedometer quit working, vehicle speed sensor, vehicle speed sensor vss

Question
I have a 1997 Grand Prix with a 3.8 L (K) engine. All of the fuses that I checked are fine. The speedometer and cruise control quit working. I cannot find where the cable goes into the transaxle.

Answer
There is no cable on your car. Its all electronic. There is a AC signal generator(vehicle speed sensor)(VSS) on the transmission that sends AC voltage to the computer and then it is translated into MPH and sent to the speedo. The problem is most likely the computer(PCM).
You should probably take it in to the dealer and have it diagnosed. If it is the PCM, it might still be covered under the factory emissions warranty. Also, if it is the PCM, the dealer is the only one that can program the new one.
