Porsche: porsche trans, clutch disc, clutch pedal

Question
hi Rodney, i have an 84 944, 2.5 non turbo,5 speed trans. tha problem im having is there is a little grinding of the gears when i shift, not so if the car is sitting still, but when im driving at normal speeds. i replaced the master cyl. all ready, the slave looked to be working decent as far as i can tell. i know the clutch disc is pretty worn, it dont slip, but im gettig clutch hook up when the clutch pedal is 3/4 s released. could this be the cause? if i leave the car in gear, say 1 st,i can push in the clutch and when i start it, the car somtimes will move a little,so that also points to the clutch disc also. do you know of a positive way to tell if the syncronizers in the trans are bad? thank you,Ron.

Answer
I've never worked on Porsches.  I just sell them.  So I won't pretend to have expert knowledge in regards to your question.  But, it sure sounds like the clutch is the most likely culprit.  I always recommend taking the vehicle to your nearest Porsche dealer for an inspection by their service technicians.  Usually they will do an inspection for $100-$200 and then you'll have a good idea what issues are most important to tackle first.
