Saab: 1996 SAAB 900 SE Convertible Fan wont turn on

Question
I have a 1997 SAAB 900 SE Convertible and the fan that is supposed to turn on to run the heat/ac won't turn on. If i turn on the fan it makes a high pitch noise and doesn't actually work, no ac nor heat.
Any help would be great! Thank you!

Dear Damon:
 From your description, it sounds like the fan bearings are in need of lubrication as suggested by the hi-pitched squeak. If this has been going on for awhile, its possible that the bearings have been damaged and simply lubricating them will not help..
 The difficulty, of course, is getting at the fan...as my profile states, my hands-on experience is limited to the pre-1993 900s, so I cannot give you specific advice as to fan removal.
