Saab: SAAB 1991 900 wont start.

Question
The car was parked and hasn't run since. It has now been left for a year. I can get it to start after a lot of cranking but it then dies after a few seconds of running and won't start again. Fuel pump had been replaced.

Answer
Ben:
From your observations, it sounds like a fuel deficiency issue. This can be caused by several things: 1.) Clogged/congested fuel filter   2.) Intermittent cranking position sensor signals which trigger the entire running cycle 3. Vacuum Leak due to dried out/cracked/loose hose in system.
I would check out those three areas in that order as to likelihood of causation.

  Hope this helps,
