Hi Jerry... not sure if you can help but i have a kind of tapping noise coming from? my engine or is it timing chain?  the garage says the engine has "gone" from only listening! they hvent investigated!! the noise is on drivers side at the top and is constant dosent change when engine running or reved! has it had it or can you make any suggestions it only done 52.000 miles...

   Any serious engine noise would be directly dependent on the speed(RPM) of the engine. Since, in your case, the noise is NOT speed dependent, I doubt that your engine is "gone" or even "ill". However, it is puzzling that the tapping is independent of engine speed.

 My final advice:  Get an honest mechanic!!
