hello, i got my clutch replaced last jan. since that time two other clutch parts have broken: both the short and long shifters.  shouldnt they have checked and or replaced these parts when they replaced my clutch?
Answer -
Hi Kellye,

I'm not too sure what you mean by the 'long' and 'short' shifters.

Do you mean shifter forks, shifter linkage?

Usually, when they replace a clutch all of the items that relate to it are:

Throw out bearing
Pressure Plate
Master Cylinder/Slave Cylinder
Clutch Disc
Flywheel

Thanks,

Ron
Thanks Ron, they noted on the invoice that they the shifter linkage rod was found loose and coming out of the socket because it was worn.  shouldnt they have inspected this when they replaced the short shifter linkage this past Jan? or when they replaced my entire clutch last Jan?

Answer
Hi Kellye,

If your lower linkage was worn, they may have not seen it.   Performing a clutch overhaul requires seperation of the engine from the transmission.  In between, there is the clutch assembly, which is what they presumably replaced.

The lower shift linkage is tucked up under the body, and not necessarily something that has to be touched during a clutch-job.

The uppper shift linkage must be disconnected in order to do a clutch job, so if it was visibly worn, it should have been brought to your attention.

The clutch is not necessarily related to the shift linkage, but if there was any sign of wear while test driving, after your clutch was installed, again, it should have been brought to your attention.

I hope this information helps you out.

Thanks,

Ron
