Volvo: 83 volvo 240 no spark, volvo 240, hall effect sensor

Question
does the system use a hall sensor or ptck up coil in distriubtor?  3 wires to sensor/coil show open with ohm meter.

Yes there is a Hall Effect sensor in the dist. If the first and last one together are open then the sensor is bad. A lot of times the connectors at the control unit spread open and make poor contact. There is a set of "sleeves" you can buy from the dealer.
