Volvo: volvo 940 turbodiesel, longevity fuel, deisel engine

Question
Hi Jimmy,

I want to buy a second hand Volvo 940 2.4l. turbodiesel estate (6 cil.) from 1995.
I heard that Volvo doesn't build dieselmotors themselves. The diesels have motors that are built by Volkswagen or Audi or something like that?
I also heard that some dieselmotors aren't quit that good.....
Can you advise me?

Greetings,

Jonny Spin (Holland)

Answer
Hello Jonny! I am not familiar with models outside of the USA. The last Volvo deisel in the USA was 1985. It was mad by VW/Audi. The deisel engine is known for longevity, fuel economy and requires less maintenance the a gas engine. However, they can be very noisey and create more smog at the tailpipe. I hope this info helps you.
