4 Wheel Drive/SUVs: isuzu trooper 4x4 service light, trooper 4x4, isuzu trooper

I have a 96 isuzu trooper and the four wheel drive light is on.  The starter went out a while back and I had the vehicle towed.  I replaced the starter and now the 4x4 service light is on.  The vehicle can be put into 4h, 4L, & 2h.  No actual problems there.
I have no idea where to start looking.  Please help.

I would start, by tracing out the wiring near and around the starter.  You may have broken or pinched a wire going to the transfer case.  Make sure that all the ground wires are connected.

I would suggest that you purchase a repair manual for your Trooper.   A Chilton's or a Hayne's manual can be purchased at most auto parts stores for $20.  They have a lot of information on basic trouble shooting, and repairs, including diagrams of the vacuum lines, and electrical wiring.

They also explain how to test for problems such as yours.  These manuals are designed for a year or range of years for specific vehicles, and are invaluable if you are planning on doing any repairs, or maintenance yourself.
