4 Wheel Drive/SUVs: Jeeps, pre purchase inspection, jeeps

Hi Bud,

I'm thinking of buying a used Jeep, probably in the Wrangler or Cherokee class (more likely a Wrangler).

Are there any good or bad things I should know about these vehicles? What type of pre-purchase inspection should I get, and who should I get it from?

Thanks Steve for the question.. My advice is always to find a mechanic you trust and have him go over the vehicle very carefully.  I don't know what year Jeep you are looking for but many of the older ones were prone to problems.  If the dealer gives you a hard time about having the vehicle inspected it is probably not worth buying it from him.  An honest dealer will ALWAYS let you get a vehicle checked.  If you like you may print this answer and take it to the dealer.  Might Help.  In any case, best of luck.  Bud
