Tim, thanks for the question(s).  Answers will be a personal opinion rather than a scientific fact since this is a very emotional subject.  Parts have improved, though I afm not sure how much due strictly due to off-roading.  Price has probably had no, or at least minimal, influence on off-roaders.  Off-roading probably was first done by an ox cart during the earliest days of history.  There are always those who are looking for an experience outside the normal, everyday experiences.  Again thanks for the great question, just wish I were better equipped to supply the answers.  Best of luck, Bud Ford
