Suzuki: SJ 410 transfer case, welding torch, sj 410

Question
Hello

I have a 1984 SJ 410 and the transfer lever jumps from 4L to N every time I release the clutch. Shifts and runs fine in 2H and 4H. Is it a selector? Easily reparable? Thanks

Answer
Check to make certain that nothing (perhaps the shift boot, or the edge of the shifter cutout)is preventing the lever from moving it's entire designed travel. I found that problem on mine by removing the boot, and noticing that the lever hit the body)  In my case, because of other modifications, I heated the shifter with a welding torch, and bent it to a different configuration.  If not, then the problem is internal.  The transfer case is fairly easy to remove and disassemble, as far as such things go.....
