Suzuki: 97 Suzuki sidekick engine swap with 96, crankshaft bearings, suzuki sidekick

Question
I have '97 sidekick 4x4 automatic. Needs crankshaft, bearings, etc. Found a '96 2WD manual transmission engine. Could it work without too much rewiring, etc.? Also, would a GEO tracker motor work too? For what it costs to replace crank and bearing I'm wondering if a salvaged engine might be cheaper. Thanks.

Answer
As long as it's still got the same displacement, and same number of valves, you'll be ok.  A salvage yard motor is frequently a good deal financially.  Just remember to change the timing belt, water pump, crank and cam seals, and so forth before installing the used motor.  it's not a bad idea to change the oil and filter every thousand miles for the first three, to get the best possible life from your "new" motor.  As for Trackers, they are Suzukis too the same displacement and number of valve issues apply.  If you stay with the same motor series, you can take the intake and exhaust manifolds and injection, alternators, power steering, and A/C if equipped and just install them on the "new" motor, thus eliminating any need to do injection, or wiring changes.
