Tips on Buying Cars: help- i smell a rat!, mercedes benz c240, benz c240

Question
Dear Mr Paulsen,
I have been very impressed by your responses to previous questions, so I was wondering if you would be able to advise me as well. Here's the scoop. A few days ago I found this gorgeous 2005 Mercedes Benz C240- 4MATIC AWD Sedan. It drives beautifully, very smooth and firm. With only 44,000 miles, it is listed at $16,950. I immediately wasn't sure if this was too low of a price for such an amazing car. But, I do not subscribe to Car Fax, nor do I want to for this one-time deal. So, I called the salesman, who is a fast-talking Indian, not too keen on providing information. What he did say was that it was stolen and recovered- thereby claimed to be a total loss by the insurance company. I'm not sure I trust him. Can you help? The VIN is WDBRF81J95F694492. Thank you so much for your help.

Answer
Hi Andrea

You know darn well you cant buy a 2005 Mercedes any model for 17K.

Without even looking it up it's a salvage, here is what I think before you go further into the matter.

...If you went shopping for a chair that cost $100. and right next to it the identical chair $40. but the sticker said all 4 legs were broken at one point but now glued together and declared safe... THATS SALVAGE...how safe would you feel sitting on it, never mind going down the hwy at 70 mph

I will help you when you find a car with a full frame, lol, let me know what your going to buy and I will guide you when the time comes, good luck,,, I assume you checked my website for pointers  http://www.usedcartips.org/index.html
