Tips on Buying Cars: Chevy Lemon, 2004 chevy z71, ashland kentucky

Question
Hello Ray,

A co-worker of mine bought a brand new, 2004 Chevy Z71 4x4 two years ago and has had problems with it since day one.  The engine has a constant knock, the brakes vibrate when applied even at slow speeds, the heater does not heat (the engine temp gauge shows low temps), and he has taken it back to the dealer many times practically pleading with them to do something.  Each time after he has taken it back the problems still exist.  In the 2 years he has owned the truck it has been in the shop for repairs a total of 55 days, resulting in him missing work a number of times.

He has called and written to everyone associated with GM that he can find information for.  The dealership refuses to give him the name or phone number of anyone in Detroit, as he is wanting to take his complaint all the way to the top.  But he keeps getting 'stone walled'.

He has finally gotten a lawyer to fight for him using the Lemon Law, but even the lawyer is having trouble getting anywhere with this dealership.  The name of the dealer is Don Hall Chevrolet in Ashland, Kentucky.

So my question is:  In your experience, what is the best way to handle this?  Where do you start?  And do you know any names, addresses, or phone numbers of anyone associated with GM who can help?   His truck was a lemon the day he drove it off the lot, so rightfully he deserves a brand new truck.  But at this point he is hesitant about going near a Chevrolet ever again.  Any advice you can offer is much apprciated, and I will pass it on to him.

Thank you,
Gary in WV

Answer
Hi Gary
I was with a GM dealership for a few years and the contact for complaints dealer could not solve would be the regional manager in charge for that section, demand from dealer whom their regional contact is  .
If you really feel its a lemon then dont give up the last thing GM wants is to replace and will only give in if it becomes public or by you being persistant.

PS.small claims court is inexpensive and could lead to publicity that GM wants no part in, that would be my avenue if no satisfactory agreement
