Tips on Buying Cars: 10 day seller cancellation policy, repo, car

Question
I purchased a car on December 28th 2009& signed a contract.  The dealer calls me 10 days letter and tells me to come in and says he needs to ammend my contract.  He failed to tell me what had really happened & that he was not able to obtain financing fo rmy car. I had the dealer send me a copy of a letter they said they mailed to me postmarked witthin ten days.  The thing is to this day I have not received any letter & the copy of the letter with postmark the dealer sent me (postal meter) is dated the 8th of January 2010.  This means they sent it (if they even did) on the 11th day because the month of January has 31 days.  I am sending my monthly payments and I am keeping up my end of the contract.  Yesterday, 1/25/2010 a repo guy came to repo my car but didnt take it because it wasnt there.  I am really stressed, and I dont have much money  but I need a lawyer this is such a night mare.  If you have any help or can offer some advice please let me know.

Thank you.

Answer
Hi Scarlett

I been down this road with your type question many times before, what you signed I believe is a Retail Installment Contract ?

You did not include a zip code so I can't be very specific with my answer as the laws differ slightly from each state, for an understanding of this type of contract in CA navigate to my web site   http://www.usedcartips.org/  and scroll down to where it says " Beware the type contract you sign " and click on that link

Now let's get you un-stressed,,, If a lawyer feels you got a case, then here is a link on my site that's free   http://www.usedcartips.org/dispute.html

In the meantime, can you outsmart the REPO MAN ??? also you must have made some kind of down payment ? Without knowing all the details I can't be specific, but if you feel you need further answers feel free to ask, and check the make private box.
