Tips on Buying Cars: Bill of sale, odometer statement, purchasing a car

Question
I live in TN and am purchasing a car in VA. Both states have bill of sale forms on their DMV websites.  Which one do we use to record the transaction?  Also, do we need to get it notarized?  I am sending his payoff amount to his lender with a letter from him stating to release and mail the title to me.  Thanks for your help.

Answer
Hello, Have you actually talked with the credit union?? I've done this kind of thing before and what I do is find out who at the bank I need to talk to and at what location, then I do a online search for the bank and use that phone # to locate the person, I don't use the phone no the seller gives me. There are top many scams out there, if the bank sends him the title signed over in his name your done for, I would be a little more cautious than this. You would use the VA bill of sale because thats where your buying it from, you will also want an odometer statement. You will need when you register in VA
