Tips on Buying Cars: Buying my first car, 2006 cadillac cts, cadillac cts

Question
Hey Ray, I was browsing the internet trying to learn about used car buying and I came across your website.

You probably get this all the time, but you truly did come across as very knowledgeable. I figure I have nothing to lose by asking you my questions :)

I'm a 24 year old male (yah insurance must suck..) and I'm looking to buy a car with the following qualities:
 - up to 5 years old
 - will be able to dish out up to 17,000 miles per year (mainly
   work commute)
 - I'm hoping to spend as little as possible
-> if I end up getting a used car, I don't want to spend
more than $10k (exception: I'm currently looking at a
2006 Cadillac CTS for $11k ...and I'm tempted)
-> if its going to be a new car, I don't want to spend more
       than $15k
-> I'm open to the idea of a lease

My question is, what would you honestly recommend? Is there a specific model I should be focusing on for used/new sedans?

This is my first car, so I don't want to be too stingy, but I don't want to end up spending my entire paycheck paying just for a car!

Answer
Hey, Balboa

I like your Q,,, main reason I get to give some advice before the fact, not after trying to get somebody out of a hole having purchased a lemon.

To get the ball rooling, let's start with your temptation " 2006 CTS for $11K in Canada " I see red flags unless it got way over 100K  " kilometers ",,, is there a link where I can view this vehicle so I can check history ?

As for a lease, without going into detail get that idea out of your head. Where do you get the idea you can be buying a brand new car for $15K ?
